GUAN DING HAO & CRYSTAL NG CHIA YEE
Johor
My entrepreneurship journey began long before I signed up as an ABO. At age 12, I was earning just RM1.80 an hour at my first part-time job. It helped shape my understanding of work and the need to seek better opportunities. I began to realise that I couldn’t maximise my income or potential with a traditional job.
As a chemical engineering student, I was juggling multiple part-time jobs, including my Amway business, at age 19. Meanwhile, Crystal was working as a bioscience marketer.
All that changed after we were introduced to Amway. We both desired the freedom and financial security that the Amway business model offers. The idea of being stuck in a traditional job and waiting for annual holidays and bonuses was unappealing to us.
My mother was initially upset with my decision, having invested heavily in my education. To fulfil her wish, I sent out numerous resumes but received no replies. During this time, I continued to provide her with a small allowance, which piqued her curiosity on my source of income - it came from my Amway business in Taiwan.
Crystal faced similar objection from her father, who ran a traditional recycling business. Despite running a sizable operation, he had little time for travel or family, and his business was vulnerable to external circumstances. Eventually, he was forced to close down the business. This incident reinforced our belief in Amway’s potential.
Achieving the Diamond pin before the age of 30 was a significant milestone for us. Besides financial success, this achievement was also about proving to ourselves and our family members that we can succeed in this business. It validated our decision to pursue Amway full-time and gave us the confidence to aim even higher.
We cannot emphasise enough on the importance of maintaining one’s focus and being persistent. Don’t overthink; take action and be consistent. The basics of the Amway business — the 3S & 1M (servicing, selling, sponsoring and meeting) — are the fundamentals to success. Attend meetings to establish the right mindset to overcome obstacles and stay positive.
Our next goal is to qualify for the Global Award Recognition (GAR). This would mean we can enjoy first-class travel for every trip and a lifestyle that we cherish and look forward to. We love travelling and the freedom it brings, and achieving GAR would make every day feel like a celebration.
