Having come from poor families, Agnes and I learnt to be independent at a young age. We had always dreamed of a life of independence but never thought it possible.

Before we signed up, I had been an architectural draftsman for 21 years while Agnes worked as a trade assistant for 10 years, and later a kindergarten teacher for 2 years.

We had heard of AMWAY™ back in 1978 when it was still new in Malaysia, but didn’t grasp at the opportunity as it seemed too good to be true.

It was a lipstick – ARTISTRY™ Burnt Sugar Lip Colour – that got us involved in the AMWAY business. Agnes loved this lipstick so much that she would go through great lengths to get it. Finally, we asked a friend to sponsor us as AMWAY Business Owners (ABOs) without even seeing the AMWAY Sales & Marketing Plan.

Things were tough initially, but with a positive attitude, perseverance, a teachable spirit, and by attending meetings, we overcame the challenges that came our way. When we achieved
9%, we started conducting our own meetings.

Through it all – the many difficulties, challenges and setbacks – we have learnt much and in retrospect, enjoyed ourselves. That’s why we are full-time in the business today.

When we became Emeralds in 1989, we began building our Diamond home instead of our Diamondship. We were very comfortable with what we had.

But in fiscal year 1996/97, we saw many ABOs moving up to higher levels and our comfort zone no longer seemed comfortable. “If they can do it, why can’t we?” we thought.

Also, we needed extra money to send our children abroad to further their studies. At the same time, we had to pay off someone’s debt.

Fortunately, the AMWAY “helping and sharing” attitude and the renowned “working together for a better tomorrow,” mottos were deeply ingrained in us, so we worked hard and smart.

With strong cooperation from our business partners, we continue heading towards a brighter future. We have managed to achieve Diamondship despite many challenges as well as the economic downturn. If we can do it, we know you can, too! See you at the top.
