CHAN POH YOKE

Life is an endeavour. I grew up in a poor family. While young, I was taught by my mother to be “a woman who strives for everything and not be a flower in the conservatory.”
Before I joined Amway, I was only a factory clerk earning a meagre salary. As a clerk, I often had to put up with the whims and fancies of my superiors. I dared not even dream of being my own boss. Until one evening, I was introduced to the golden opportunity of Amway.
Initially, I never expected that I could sell anything. I even gave many excuses not to do the Amway business. But after carefully studying the Amway Sales & Marketing Plan, I began to understand it. I felt that there was no harm in trying the Amway business. After all, I had nothing to lose. In fact, I saw the Amway business as one which would yield a large profit with only a small capital outlay. Thus, I joined Amway in June 1978.
Although my sponsor quit the Amway business 3 months after I joined Amway, it did not discourage me. Instead, I attended Amway meetings regularly and in time, I built up my confidence. I realised the importance of perseverance. While doing my Amway business, I encountered many challenges and setbacks: no means of transportation, few friends and ineloquence. Furthermore, I used to live in a kampung where transport at night was inconvenient. But all these did not deter me from qualifying as a Direct Distributor in 1980. In April 1981, I resigned as a clerk and went full-time into Amway. There was no looking back for me. I worked hard at my Amway business and finally qualified as a Diamond Direct Distributor in February 1993.
I wish to congratulate all my fellow Amway Distributors. My achievement is a reflection of their success! I thank my sponsor Cheah Siew Hoon, for introducing me to this wonderful business. I also thank Amway Co-Founders Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel for the Amway business. I’m also grateful to all upline Direct Distributors, especially Crown Ambassador Direct Distributor Chan Lee Sean, for guiding me forward on the road to success. Let’s hold on to our high aspirations in spite of poverty. If I can make it, you can make it too!
