Looking at Khoo’s success today, one would be hard-pressed to imagine a time when he opposed the business to the point of convincing his friends to abandon it. In a turn of event that surprised many, when he was in the final year of his Engineering degree in Australia, he abandoned his studies to build an AMWAY™ business.
While others questioned his decision, Khoo stuck to his guns, convinced that it was the best course for his life. His farsightedness has rewarded him with a strong global business that spans the reaches of Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, the United States, India and Singapore among others.
“Successful people have one thing in common – they know what they want in life. This trait differentiates them from other people. The AMWAY business is an action plan for us to work towards our dreams, setting clear directions for achievements and rewards. A well-planned life is a successful and exciting one. Anyone with a strong desire to succeed in AMWAY can and will achieve it,” says Khoo.
When asked what were the factors that contributed to his success, Khoo emphasises on these four:
» Being entrepreneurial: Entrepreneurs have a "can do" attitude and are tenaciously focused on achieving their dreams. ABO leaders should treat their groups as an enterprise of entrepreneurs, to encourage their downlines to pursue their dreams and put their talents and abilities to use.
» Building teamwork: Teamwork and competitiveness seldom coexist. But in AMWAY, it is possible. One's success is never at the expense of another, rather success can only be achieved together. A leader needs to help his downlines to first succeed before he can succeed. He needs to build strong teams and inculcate competitiveness to encourage the achievement of goals.
» Think globally, start locally: AMWAY is a global business. Only when you can see that there are no boundaries to your AMWAY business, will you be able to fully realise the true potential of this business. But first, build a solid and stable business locally and it can support you when you venture to grow your business internationally.
» Be technologically savvy: AMWAY has had the foresight to invest and to keep the competitive advantage through the use of technology, branding campaigns and successful tie-ups. ABOs would do well to learn to use technology to improve themselves while maintaining the close one-to-one relationships with customers and downlines.
However, one point that he accentuates even more is this: “There is no gain without commitment. You need to give your business one hundred percent commitment and work at it – passionately, consistently, and continuously – if you want your dreams to come true.”
