I had always wanted to become a teacher since young. To me, being an educator is a meaningful profession. I have been in the education field for 30 years, and my wife has also been a teacher for the same length of time.
I used to be a strong opponent of direct selling, but I signed up as an AMWAY™ Business Owner (ABO) to support my childhood friend, Diamond Sunny Poh. Being exposed to this opportunity made me realise that it was exactly the type of business I had been looking for.
Back then, I lived in a small village called Kg. Sitiawan with only about a dozen other families. There were no suitable locations to conduct meetings. I had a tough time learning the ropes of the business.
On top of that, my sponsor lived in Batu Pahat, about 500 kilometres away. There was also no telephone in my house, so I could only communicate with my sponsor via postal mail. He made the effort of sending me recordings of AMWAY meetings so that I could learn to be an ABO.
Collecting products I had ordered was another challenge. I had to compile enough orders then send a bank draft to Petaling Jaya via registered mail. The company would then send the products to Taiping via Butterworth.
It took two to three weeks for the products to reach me. There were occasions when the cartons were crushed and the packaging torn. When that happened, I had to pack the damaged products and deliver them personally to the AMWAY Headquarters during the school holidays, in Batu Pahat.
AMWAY staff were understanding; they accepted the returned products and replaced them with new ones. I was impressed and my confidence in the company grew even stronger!
AMWAY is a simple business. It may not be as easy as you think, but the point is that as long as you put in the effort, it will definitely be worth your while.
